Scooter Ledford, born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina, is descended from a long line of farmers, educators, and craftsmen.
His paternal grandfather, Jess Ledford, was a skilled carpenter and blacksmith, as were his great grandfather and many of his uncles on his father’s side. His maternal grandfather, Zellian McCoury, was a farmer and educator and also came from a long line of ancestors who were close to the land. His father, Darrell Ledford, Sr., was also an educator (high school principal and farmer) with an interest in wood work. His Mother, Elwanda is a avid collector of antiques, who also loves the land and animals, and is an inspiration to all.

So, raised on the headwaters of White Oak Creek near Bakersville, North Carolina, Scooter is still close to the land (he owns his grandfather's home place) and has filled his own home with family heirlooms which showcase the mountain life of days gone by. In fact, he has left the white collar world and returned to a life dominated by the basics, the land of the Blue Ridge Mountains which inspire in him not only the love of nature but also a deep spiritual connection, honoring a God of love and beauty.

His woodworking creations reflect this aspect of his life. He works primarily in hardwoods: red oak, white oak, and chestnut oak.
